I’ve not had that much experience working with different crops as I’m only in the second year of my PhD (you tend to specialise in just one or two) but working with oilseed rape has been fun. I get to do what can best be described as window shopping, lots of different varieties of oilseed rape are being grown and I’m involved with looking and them and taking some measurements (similar to trying on pairs of shoes to see which ones fit the best) to try and decide which varieties to look at in more detail.

In terms of my all time favourite crop though it would have to be flower sprouts. These are a new (ish) vegetable that has come about by crossing a kale with a brussel sprout and the reason I like them is because they can be a nice purple colour and look really interesting when being grown.
