Well according to the Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy the meaning of life is 42 😉 I don’t know if anyone can answer this, although I would like my life to be happy and I’d like to make a difference! What I don’t know yet is whether this will be by doing research and discovering something new about our universe or teaching and inspiring the next generation of scientists like you guys!
Life has a different meanings for different people but 42 seems like a good place to start………
From a biology point of view organisms exist to reproduce and pass on their genes to their children but I’m sure that other groups of people with different points of view would completely disagree. After all if you go with the biology point of view then it is a little depressing to think that the only reason you exist is to have children.
I think i answered in a live chat earlier that maybe if you think purely from a reductionist sense of unicellular or multicellular organisms then it is maybe simply to replicate. But as humans (albeit we are multicellular organisms!) I’d like to think it is to give something positive for those we leave behind to benefit from.
google:
life/līf/Noun
1. The condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.
2. Living things and their activity: “some sort of life existed on Mars
