Fair testing is where you only change one variable in your experiment and keep everything else constant between the different treatments, this way you can work out if the thing that you changed is having an effect.

For example your question might be do plants grow better under higher temperatures? So you would set up an experiment with the plants growing in different temperatures but keep everything else such as the light, humidity and amount that you water the plants the same. This way it should show you if higher temperatures are making the plants grow more.
