I go for runs around a moor next to our lab or, if I’m at home in Whitley Bay, along the coastline. It definitely helps me relax. Sometimes (ahem) I’ll also drink beer.

For most of my PhD I did jiu jitsu twice a week but I had to stop in January because I kept on getting hurt. I loved it because I would focus on training and completely forget about any problems I had with my work! It’s why I described myself as a kickass astronomy geek 😀

A lot of my free time now is taken up with the astronomy podcast that I’m in charge of (The Jodcast). I also like going to gigs whenever I can.

Free time what is this????? Only joking. I really enjoy photography and taking arty photos especially macro ones, plus I like to go swimming and play netball. Church things take up quite a bit of time, be it setting up for events or just meeting up for coffee with people. Seeing bands and other things on stage is also something I try to find time for. By far the most enjoyable thing to do with my free time though is just hang out with good friends and have a laugh, you can’t beat it.
