Well I guess at the moment I’m aiming to get my PhD. I achieve this first by doing 3-4 years of research. This research has to be original, i.e. something that hasn’t been done before by someone else. I then write a really long report about this research called a thesis. My thesis is read by two examiners – one from my university and one from a different university – and then I have to defend my work to them in what’s called a viva. Most vivas are probably 2-3 hours long so it’s going to be pretty intense. Hopefully then I’ll pass and I can call myself a doctor!
