By doing lots of experiments. Firstly you find and problem, like does anti gravity really exist? Then come up with some questions to try an answer the problem, so if cats always land on their feet but toast lands butter side down then if you tied a piece of buttered toast to a cats back and dropped it would you create anti gravity as both need to land on the floor causing the cat to spin in the air? Then the fun can begin as you try to answer the questions to prove or disprove the theory. So voila in a few simple steps you’ve found something out.
