There are several ways that plants help keep us alive.

Firstly they undergo a process called photosynthesis whereby the green parts of the plant (mainly the leaves) use the energy from the sun to covert carbon dioxide into oxygen. This is essential for our survival because we need oxygen to breathe.

Plants are also a great source of food for humans and contain many of the essential vitamins and minerals that we need in our diets. They also form animal feed as well, and seeing as humans eat animals and animals eat plants then we are dependant upon plants to keep our animals fit and healthy.

Plants are also a great source of materials such as wood and cotton which can be used to make shelters, fire and clothes to keep us warm.

So you are totally correct that without plants we would not be able to survive.
