Joseph Finlayson answered on 20 Jun 2011:

Philosophy is greek for ‘the love of wisdom.’ But I really think it should be the ‘love of thinking’. In philosophy we try to answer really complicated questions from a variety of fields. For example:

Can time exist without things changing? or Can things change without time passing?
What’s the best form of morality?

When there’s a question which can’t be answered by looking in History books, or by studying it in a lab – it’s a philosophical question. All the sciences used to be branches of philosophy until they became rigourous enough to set up labs. Some branches – like evolutionary psychology are probably still parts of philosophy.
